Indianapolis Colts tight end Weslye Saunders has been suspended for the first eight games of the 2013 season for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances, the league announced Thursday.

Saunders, who was kicked off his college team at South Carolina, started his NFL career last season as an undrafted free agent with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Colts picked him up off waivers when the Steelers cut him in October.

Saunders will be eligible to return to the Colts' active roster on Monday, Nov. 4, following the team's Nov. 3 game against the Houston Texans.

Saunders was a decent bet to make the Colts as their third tight end. NFL.com's Ian Rapoport notes the Colts worked out veteran tight ends Dante Rosario, Randy McMichael and Cornelius Ingram in May.

This suspension could help this year's "Mr. Irrelevant," Justice Cunningham, make the Colts' roster

opps does he really spell his name weslye?
thats his first mistake..

its a shame this kid cant get his head on right, he was good at south carolina then had drug problems,
same thing with us, now colts.

I really had high hopes for him as a sleeper undrafted type. Could of been very productive as a number 2 tight end for us. Kid has all the talent in the world, but a toilet for a brain. This will already be his 3rd shot. Hate to see young kids shyt on their chances.. But teams are gonna say Fuck it, and hes gonna be working at kmart the rest of his life.

get your head out of your ass young man!!

Glad the Steelers cut their losses by saying goodbye to this guy last year

Sometimes you get lucky with a player who drops significantly in the draft for off the field issues (Exhibit A being Dan Marino falling to the Dolphins due to "rumors" of drug use at Pitt) but more often than not you get a Saunders or Aaron Hernandez situation

agreed for every guy who falls cause of bad choices in college that turns into a success there is 10 guys who fall and fail.
