Ravens TE Dennis Pitta is expected to be out for the year with a dislocated hip, per ESPN source.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Dennis Pitta will miss the 2013 season after undergoing hip surgery Saturday.
Pitta dislocated his hip on the third day of camp. It's a huge downgrade to Baltimore's offense, and means plodding in-line TE Ed Dickson will be forced into an full-time role. Torrey Smith is the Ravens' only current viable receiver. An ascending "flex/move" tight end,

Pitta was highly likely to lead Baltimore in receptions this season as essentially the team's in-house replacement for Anquan Boldin.

Because Pitta did practice early in camp, he's not a candidate for PUP. The Ravens could place Pitta on injured reserve/designated for return in hopes of a late-year comeback. Like Jeremy Maclin -- the Eagles' wideout who was also lost for the season Saturday -- Pitta was entering a contract year.

I'm all broken up about Pitta being lost for the season.

In all seriousness, that does suck. Looks like they have Visanthe Shiancoe there to pick up whatever he can for Baltimore. He's no Dennis Pitta, but he's not an awful TE in his own right.

Trading Boldin and Flacco losing his favorite receiver in Pitta won't be helping them, they have a motley crew of unproven WR's after them.

Browns OL Ryan Miller hospitalized after being knocked unconscious at practice injury Saturday

Second-year Browns offensive lineman Ryan Miller was injured and down on the field for nearly 10 minutes Saturday afternoon at the team's fieldhouse, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Miller, drafted in the fifth round in 2012 out of Colorado, was immobilized on a board and then carted to the ambulance. The team did not give his identity until his family was notified.

Teammates huddled around Miller, took a knee and prayed. The music heard during drills ceased.

The injury occurred during individual drills. Practice was held inside and closed to the public because of rain. It was supposed to be the first practice in full pads, but was conducted in shoulder pads instead.

About 10 minutes after Miller was transported to a local hospital, a team spokesman said he was awake, alert and moving all four extremities.

Ravens rookie lineman Ryan Jensen broke foot, to undergo surgery

Ravens sixth-round offensive lineman Ryan Jensen broke his foot and will undergo surgery soon to repair the damage, Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports. This according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Jensen is expected to be sidelined for roughly 10 weeks after suffering the injury late last week.

Jensen was a Division II All-American at Colorado State-Pueblo. He's the first player drafted from his school since the Kansas City Chiefs picked running back Herman Heard in the third round in 1984.

Kolb exits practice after slipping on a mat

When the Bills cut Tarvaris Jackson, we knew that the starting quarterback job was EJ Manuel’s to lose. If coach Doug Marrone will let Manuel back up the oft-injured Kevin Kolb, it means Marrone is comfortable putting Manuel on the field — since he’ll inevitably be on the field because Kolb inevitably will be injured.

Of course, before Kolb can get injured in the regular season, he needs to get through the preseason uninjured. And before he can get through the preseason uninjured, he has to get through training camp uninjured. And before he can get through training camp uninjured, he has to routinely get to the practice field uninjured.

Via multiple reports, Kolb injured himself while walking to a field on Saturday. Per Mark Gaughan of the Buffalo News, Kolb slipped on a rubber mat while walking from one field to the other. Via Sal Capaccio, trainers looked at Kolb’s knee. Per Capaccio, Kolb was “visibly upset” as he headed to the locker room with his pads off.

The injury comes a day after coach Doug Marrone told reporters that the team is “very, very pleased” with Manuel’s progress. He may get even more chances to progress if Kolb ends up missing practices and/or preseason games due to his unexpected-in-manner-but-not-in-result injury.

Bulaga has torn ACL

We’re still several days away from the first full weekend of preseason action, and yet another player is done for the duration.

Per a league source, Packers left tackle Bryan Bulaga has indeed suffered a torn ACL in his knee.

The injury happened during Saturday night’s intra-squad scrimmage. Bulaga didn’t miss a rep, but he complained about a problem with the knee after the practice.

Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel first reported that Bulaga has a knee injury, and that the team feared it could end his season.

A first-round pick in 2010, Bulaga was moved from right tackle to left tackle during the offseason as the Packers try to improve an offensive line that allowed 51 sacks of quarterback Aaron Rodgers in 2012.

Green Bay - Tackle Bryan Bulaga, a mainstay of the Green Bay Packers' offensive line, suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament Saturday night in the intra-squad scrimmage and will miss the entire season based on the diagnosis of the team's medical staff, a source told the Journal Sentinel Monday morning.

nothing major, but could be lingering

Baltimore Ravens tight end Ed Dickson strained his hamstring and was removed from Sunday's practice.

Dickson's injury came eight days after the Ravens lost Dennis Pitta to a season-ending hip injury, putting Dickson atop the depth chart at the position.

Coach John Harbaugh downplayed the injury.

"Ed Dickson, his hamstring grabbed a little bit, so we pulled him out for precautionary reasons," Harbaugh said, according to The Baltimore Sun. "We'll take a look at it and see how it looks."

Visanthe Shiancoe, who signed as a free agent after Pitta's injury, worked with the first team in Dickson's absence.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Browns starting right guard Shawn Lauvao is expected to be out about six weeks after undergoing arthroscopic ankle surgery Friday, meaning he could miss the first two to three weeks of the season, a league source said.

Lauvao, the Browns' third-round pick in 2010, had a piece of loose cartilage removed the ankle, and also suffered a high ankle sprain. Jason Pinkston, working his way back after being out of football for seven months following a blood clot in his lung, is expected to start in Lauvao's place

Patriots' Tom Brady sprains knee, but it's not serious
By Gregg Rosenthal

Published: Aug. 14, 2013 at 07:37

Any Tom Brady injury news is noteworthy. But initial signs after he injured his left knee Wednesday are promising.

The New England Patriots quarterback left practice after being hit in his left knee, according to multiple reporters on the scene in Foxborough. A source informed of the injury told NFL.com's Ian Rapoport that Brady has a knee sprain, but it's "not serious." Brady will undergo more tests later Wednesday night, per Rapoport.

NFL.com's Albert Breer reported via sources that MRI results show Brady's knee doesn't have structural damage, and the reconstruction of the ACL that the quarterback tore in Week 1 of the 2008 season wasn't compromised. Sources also told Breer that Brady will be evaluated again Thursday.
