The Pittsburgh Penguins have hired Jacques Martin as an assistant coach, it was announced today by General Manager Ray Shero and Head Coach Dan Bylsma.

Your thoughts? I love this move personally!!!

very cool. good to see some fresh blood in the coaching staff, a defensive minded guy to balance out Bylsma's run and gun. He's good enough to be a head coach so this is a great hire.

According to Bylsma it is Fleury. And it will be Fleury moving forward. That was his answer right before the team said they would not make any coaching changes.

It's a good thing they just hired a coach ready to step in, step up and take over then - we just gonna keep Vokoun for the playoffs again?

(hey, that rhymed)

oh that crafty Mario - Disco Dan might be on a short leash?

I would think Disco and Fleury are on a short leash in 2013-2014. They both have to be successful. Disco put a heavy emphasis that MAF is and will be the starting goaltender for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fall. If Fleury fails to live up to performance standards and Bylsma keeps playing him, then I think it is a bad mark on him. I see Disco staying around for the entire 2013-2014 campaign. If the team falls short again, I predict he's gone.

My guess is Vokoun will be the backup entering camp next month. He will compete with the younger goalies. Can the younger guys overtake him on the depth chart? I'm not sure. But I just hope Vokoun has another great year as a backup. Remember Brent Johnson had a nice year then followed it up with a poor one. Hope Tomas does not follow that trend.

I doubt it. He should have been fired after losing to the Bruins. But Burkle and Lemieux were more worried about Malkin's extension. They want to prolong the country club atmosphere.

I agree Bylsma should have been let go after the season. IMO he failed at meeting expectations. To me, his statements about sticking with Fleury and backing Fleury 110% were very strong. What happens if Flower continues his poor play into the upcoming season? Does Bylsma stick with him per the commitment? Does he play musical goalies and go with the hot hand?
