Can Steelers count on AB,Wheaton, Moye/Cotchery next season?

This would have deep draft implications for the defense. If we don't have to go tall playmaker first two rounds we can add much needed talent to the defense. We could possibly get Nix in the first round then maybe Dennard in the second. Imagine our defense then, if we resign Worilds, and Spence is healthy? It would be championship caliber. Then with the expected improved play of the o-line, playmakers at RB and TE, elite QB, the only question mark left is do we have the WRs?

Dennard is a top 20 pick. As much as I'd like to get him in the second round, if we want him, he's a first round selection. If anything, Louis Nix is more likely to drop due to his knee injury and fluctuating weight issues.

I really hope Spence becomes a play maker for us (@teegre convinced me, finally) but he has to play a down in the NFL first. Baby steps.

I'd feel a lot better if it were Brown, Sanders, Wheaton. But we'll have to wait and see what FA brings.

I've been very wrong before, but I don't think the Steelers can go into the season counting on Brown, Wheaton, Cotchery.

I don't know if J. Brown or Moye are ready, or ever will be ready to step up and fill key roles (I'd love to see them both do just that though). I'm sure the coaching staff has a much better idea at this point, and I trust them to make the right decisions.

I wouldn't mind that WR corps at all. It's possible we even lose Cotchery as well. The good news is that Ben is working with Wheaton, Moye, and J. Brown already. Let's hope this extra work pays off and they develop into what we need to compete at a high level. It would be nice to save a draft pick for the struggling defense.

Nix is a luxury we cant afford. Stick with McClendon, like they intended to do when they signed him to a 3 year deal, and draft playmakers around him.

Yeah I really hope he drops down to us, and his knee remains healthy. I think he will be our next Hampton. Then shift McClendon to a more natural position of DE where he can drop some weight and use his mobility. Then imagine a LB core of Spence,Timmons,Worilds, and Jones behind the dline. I think we'd have one of the best front seven in football. I also think we will find a good corner in round 2.

I think you misread my post. I dont want Nix in round 1. I dont want a NT high, period. They dont play enough to warrant that high of a selection. I would like to go WR or DB #1. That has to be the priority. This team is in desperate need of play makers, as in an offensive player who gets 20+ yard plays or a defender that causes turnovers. A NT does none of that, while also only playing 50% of the game, at most.

Drafting a WR early is one of the biggest wastes of picks IMO. So much has to happen in order for a WR to make an impact, like pass protection, having a good QB and defensive coverage.

Look at the WR's taken in 2012 in the first 33 picks. #5 Justin Blackmon JAX, Michael Floyd #13 ARZ, #20 Kendall Wright TEN, #30 AJ Jenkins SFO, #33 Brian Quick STL.

In 2011 there was AJ Green #3, Julio Jones #5, #26 Jonathan Baldwin.

I think Sammy Watkins and Marquise Lee are sure things in this draft, really not sure on the Evans hype, I personally think he will be mediocre. One thing I do believe is that we have enough WR's on the team for Ben to complete passes to without looking to reach for one at #20. I also think we have a lot bigger holes to fill in the first 2 rounds than WR

Yup.

I don't think I've ever agreed with a statement more than that one.

That's why I consider it to be the last piece of the puzzle for an offense. We have the QB, we have invested heavily in the OL(which should see its true benefits this year, hopefully), we have a TE, all we need is that second playmaker.

Also, a WR is valued more by FO's than any other position on offense, save for QB, as the investments they put into the position is crazy high (in terms of monetary value).
