Jim Irsay arrested
Colts owner Jim Irsay has been arrested in Carmel, Indiana on multiple charges.

According to the Indianapolis Star, Irsay faces preliminary charges of “operating while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance.” Bond has been set at $22,500.

Irsay is the first NFL owner to face criminal charges since Eddie DeBartolo relinquished control of the 49ers when it was learned that he was facing an indictment on federal racketeering charges in 1997. In 1998, DeBartolo pleaded guilty to failure to report a felony in connection with money allegedly paid to former Louisiana governor Edwin Edwards to procure a riverboat gambling license.

The NFL routinely imposes discipline on players and non-players who are convicted of or plead guilty to DUI charges. To have any credibility when punishing non-owners for such offenses, the NFL must be willing to impose discipline on owners, too.

When players are arrested for drunk driving, one of the arguments raised is that they can afford to pay for a ride home. With a net worth of $1.6 billion, Irsay definitely can.

I'm sure he will. He has the money to walk away from this with just a slap on the wrist.

Re: Jim Irsay arrested
So, does this mean he'll be subjected to random, unscheduled drug tests in the future?

Re: Jim Irsay arrested
Colts owner Jim Irsay faces four felony counts after being arrested late Sunday night on preliminary charges of possession of a controlled substance and driving while intoxicated.

Irsay was arrested in the northern Indianapolis suburb of Carmel, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. His bond was set at $22,500.

"During the course of the investigation, Irsay subsequently failed several roadside field sobriety tests," Carmel police Lt. Joe Bickel said in a release.

While searching Irsay's vehicle, "multiple prescription drugs were discovered in pill bottles. These Schedule IV prescription drugs were not associated with any prescription bottles found in the vehicle," according to police.

The Colts released a statement late Monday morning.

"We are gathering information at this time regarding last night's incident involving Jim Irsay," the statement said. "The team will issue additional statements when the facts are sorted and we are aware of the next steps to this process. Many fans have reached out to express their concern and we appreciate their support."

Irsay, who frequently interacts with fans on Twitter, wrote in an October tweet that, "I don't drink...haven't in over 15 years."

He will be subject to league discipline under the NFL's personal conduct policy, which applies to all personnel.

Now 54, Irsay acknowledged in 2002 that he had become dependent on painkillers after several orthopedic operations but said he had overcome the problem after undergoing treatment.

Irsay, who lives in Carmel, became the Colts' owner in 1997 after the death of his father, Robert Irsay, and a lengthy legal battle with his father's second wife. He is the seventh Colts player or official to be arrested since January 2010.

Forbes magazine estimated Irsay's net worth at $1.6 billion. His wife of 33 years, Meg Irsay, filed for divorce in November, citing an "irretrievable breakdown" of the marriage.

A joint statement issued by the couple said Jim Irsay would retain full ownership of the Colts and his other business interests. The couple, who married in 1980, have been separated for a decade and are the parents of three adult daughters.

Re: Jim Irsay arrested
I'm just curious to see what Rog' will do to on of his employers? "Oh I know JIm, just blowin' off some steam, no problem". "I know it still haunts you that the Steelers beat your team in 2005". By the way, which Steelers players should I suspend for this one?"

Re: Jim Irsay arrested
With this family's history of alcohol intake, it makes me wonder if his name is really ISRAY but it just came out as "IrrrrSssay" when someone asked him to pronounce it.

Re: Jim Irsay arrested
Irsay was pulled over late Sunday after he was spotted driving slowly near his home in suburban Carmel, stopping in the roadway and failing to use a turn signal. ...

Failure to use the turn signal will get you every time if the police are looking for a reason to chat

Carmel police said the drugs found in Irsay's vehicle weren't associated with any of the prescription bottles found inside.

Cocaine presumably not being a prescription med in Indiana:noidea:
