NFL Cracking Down On On-Field Trolls

Article:

Officials monitoring players taunting each other has been in the league’s rule book, as a point of emphasis.

It’s now moving from the back of the book to the front of the book...

Maybe some good can come from this. Maybe signaling for a first down with the ball after every fucking catch you make will be considered taunting and players will have to stop that.

I think NFL players should run with this idea and turn it on its head to expose the stupidity of it.

For example:

Steelers vs. Ravens. Antonio Brown makes a third down catch for a first. He's tackled by Terrell Suggs. Enter post-play scene...

Suggs: Good catch, AB!
AB: Thanks! Good D, guys, good D! Get 'em next time!
Suggs: I think you're gonna score on us!
AB: Not if you guys keep up this stellar D!
Suggs: I don't know. Your O is playing pretty good, too!
AB: It's okay, hang tough guys! We're all in this together!
Suggs: YEAH! I'm gonna marry your sister and raise a family!
AB: GREAT! She'll like that! You're such an outstanding dude! And so handsome!

IMO cracking down on "taunting" is code for keeping the game from becoming, for lack of a better term, too black.

Of all the offensive words that are uttered on a football field, the only one that was scheduled to be singled out was the n-word.

Same with the current trash talking.

Selling trucks, beer and viagra to white folks is how the NFL pays the bills, but the NFL still runs clips of Jack Lambert pointing at a downed Browns ball carrier while saying "that oughta cool your ass off" and using Preston Pearson's face mask as support to raise himself up after making a tackle in Super Bowl X.

I guess it all depends who is doing the taunting:noidea:

That picture reminds me of an interesting story about Hines Ward being taunted.

I thought that it was against the Browns, but that picture makes me think it was actually against the Bengals. Regardless...

Early on in his career, a DB (Browns or Bengals) was taunting Hines Ward all game long, calling Ward a gook. At some point, Hines blind-side blocked the effing snot out of that DB, leaving the DB unconscious & laying on the ground.

Ward stood over him, in tears, yelling down at the unconscious DB: "Who's the gook now, huh!?! Who's the fucking gook!?!"

The refs (to their credit) did not throw a taunting flag on Ward. They simply grabbed Hines around the waist, and gently guided him to the sideline.
