Self-serve beer stations make debut

American technology triumphs once again:drink:

Self-serve beer stations are up and running in Target Field, so Minnesota Twins fans and those who attend the Major League Baseball All-Star festivities next week can decide what they want and even how much they want of it.

The machines, called DraftServ, are a partnership between concessionaire Delaware North and Anheuser-Busch.

"It's a way to engage with the customer and allows the fan to have greater control of what they're drinking," said Jerry Jacobs Jr., principal of Delaware North, whose Sportservice controls the concessions at 10 baseball stadiums, seven arenas that host NBA and NHL fans and seven NFL stadiums.

Fans attending Twins games can go to a cash register, show their ID and preload a $10 or $20 card. For the All-Star Game, a $50 card will be available

Fans then scan the card at the machine and can choose between four beers and regulate how much they want to have poured.

Bud and Bud Light will cost 38 cents per ounce, while Shock Top Lemon Shandy and Goose Island 312 Urban Pale Ale will cost 40 cents per ounce...

The machine allows a customer to use the card to pour up to 48 ounces of beer every 15 minutes

just incase anyone is wondering that is one 12 oz "can" of beer every 3minutes 45 seconds = $4.56 or $4.80 for the good stuff, or three 16 oz beers every 5 minutes ($6.40 IPA).

this is the greatest thing to ever happen to mankind! :danceshout:

i'm sure the machine also sends your drinking info to all the local police departments.

that would be less useful than setting sobriety checkpoints at all the exits of parking lots.

well if the machine sent the drinking info to the cops they could scan the plates in the parking lot and, "mark" the cars accordingly. the cops here have been known to take down tag numbers of cars in bar parking lots "for future reference" .

the point being is that every beer consumer could have a spouse along as the designated driver.

i doubt the local forces have the capabilities to monitor 50,000+ beer card sales and track the data.

much more efficient to simply set up DWI checkpoints or "license and proof of registration checks" as theyre known here.

every year the German Air Force puts on a huge Octoberfest celebration at the base (4000+). All the local force would have to do is set up one of their standard checkpoints heading back into town after midnight.

theyve never done it. word is there is a wink and a nod agreement with the local force and AF plus the system cand handle the influx of arrests, putting them in cells, and prosecuting them.

border patrol checks about 1 out of 10 semi-tractor trailers crossing over from mexico. its all a basic deterrent.

never going to stop it or shut it down, wether it is smuggling or drinking and driving after the games/ celebrations.

It's a revenue source for the ballpark

Enforcing DWI laws is not their concern

Note how the standard $10-$20 card can load $50 for next week's All Star game to cash in on big spenders and a rare sellout at a Twins game
