Inside Slant: Kendall Simmons

Inside Slant
Guard Kendall Simmons is ready for some clear skies after a relentless dark cloud pursued him the past two seasons. He can't wait for that first practice of training camp.

"I'm excited right now," said Simmons, the team's first-round draft choice in 2002. "You'll never hear me complain about practice, because I've been out for a year and I see what I missed."

He missed last season with a torn ACL in his right knee, and even though he started all 16 games at right guard in 2003 he was not himself. That summer he learned, a week before training camp opened, that he had developed diabetes. That came weeks after he had right elbow surgery, which came weeks after he had shoulder surgery, which came a year after he had surgery on his LEFT elbow. There also were the two ankle surgeries he had at Auburn, along with a torn MCL in his left knee.

Wow this guys sure had a lot of surgeries. Hopefully injuries will stay away from him for a while and let him play.

defintley. Lets hope the whole offensive line stays healthy. Though they really dont get talked about a lot, in my eyes they are what will decide if we are succsesful this year or not.

Not much depth on the line so they must stay healthy....Once again i think the OL is the big question mark for the third year in a row...lets just hope they step up and kickass again like last year : ) Max Starks needs to have a big year

I love Simmons attitude of wanting to get out and prove something, but I hope it doesn't end up pushing too hard out of the gate again. Its a shame cause they always talk highly of him at starts of seasons.

I'm waiting to see how he adjusts to the new zone blocking scheme now employed. Kendall always had trouble picking out a target and hitting someone in space. This lack of skill was masked with the man to man blocking favored by Kent Stephenson, who was replace by Russ Grimm. BTW, this is part of the reason we don't run left of center often, especially when it's weakside.

I am hoping the same. Kendrell was awesome, but he was too plagued with injuries. I would hate to see the same happen with Simmons.
