I hear a lot of people (Bengals and Browns fans) say that Big Ben's success in his rookie year was because he was surrounded by a great team. Do they forget that same "great" team went 6 and 10 the year before? Do they forget the Steelers were 1 and 1 before Ben took over and led them on a 14 game winning streak?

I also hear a lot of people (Bengals and Browns fans) say that Ben's QB rating, and success was because of the run game, and the fact he did not throw as much as other QB's..... He was just a rookie, and all he can do is throw when called on. He was very efficient! If there ever was a stat in the NFL that shows efficiency it is the QB rating.

I understand that Ben throwing the ball too much his rookie year would have likely resulted in a bad thing. That said.....Of the 12 teams that made the playoffs the QB's averaged 501 attempts....Ben was well short of that at 295.

Using basic math.... here are Big Bens stats with 501 pass attemps.....

(332 Comp. - 66 Comp. % - 4448 Yds. - 8.9 Yds./Att. - 29 TD 18 INT)

I don't think he would have done that good, but it certainly says something about what he was able to do as a rookie, and what he may be capable of in the future.

Since it is the BF.....I did the math on Carson Palmer with 501 pass attemps.....

(305 Comp. - 61 Comp.% - 3361 Yds. - 6.71 Yds./Att. - 21 TD - 21 INT)

No logical Steeler fan expects to go 15 and 1 again....nor do we expect Ben to improve on his 98.1 QB rating. Noone can predict the future, but you must give credit where credit is due.....

The only reason for this thread is I was wearing my "Got Ben?" shirt to school taday. I live in Dayton, so I was getting bashed by Bengal and Browns fans. They are really bitter towards Ben, and the Steelers.

Ben definitely brought a spark to Pittsburgh. I don't think many people expected the ride we got when Tommy Maddox went down. Most viewed our season as over. Out came Ben Roethlisberger who led us to victory after victory. Yes we did not get to the Superbowl, but it was still an amazing season for the Steelers. Yes Ben was surronded by an excellent bunch of players and he did hand the ball of a lot, but he brought a lot to the table also. He made some great plays and performed well. This season will be the test for him. He has new passing weapons. The playbook will be expanded. This season will show us what Ben's future looks like in the NFL. Right now it looks very promising and I think he will do very well this season, but that is only my opinion. We just all have to wait and see how it goes. As BB2W said congrats to Ben on a wonderful rookie season.

As a homer I have to say Palmer will kill in stats this year....And well thats it, O wait you guys just wish you had CJ too throw to.

I think you will find that a bit of arrogance is a pre-requisite for a professional sportsman - everyone (including fans) is looking for a chance to lay a bit of smack on em, and they need the self belief to go out and perform week in week out.

Its becoming amusing now looking at these debates about who is the best QB when they have a combined 2 seasons playing time between them.

Both are talented - both have got a lot left to prove.

Well said BB2W...I really think everyone around the NFL that bashes what Ben accomplished is jealous and if he was on their team and was able to have the same success, they would be going crazy over the guy. He had an amazing season...better than any of us could have ever imagined. He accomlished something no other QB in the AFC has ever done and he was infact only a rookie. Yes, we did not make it to the ultimate goal, but it was still an exciting season to be a Pittsburgh Steeler Fan!
