Pitt safety Fields suspended for season
I guess things have started to go down the shoot for Pitt.
http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pitt.../s_519983.html Pitt safety Fields suspended for season By Kevin Gorman TRIBUNE-REVIEW Tuesday, July 31, 2007 After showing flashes of potential stardom in the secondary this past spring, Pitt sophomore safety Elijah Fields will instead be confined to the sidelines this season. Fields has been suspended for the football season for violating team policy, Panthers coach Dave Wannstedt announced Tuesday. "Although we have suspended Elijah for the season, he will remain part of our program and practice," Wannstedt said in a statement. "We will continue to demand that he work hard on the field and in the classroom so that he can be an important part of our program's future." At Duquesne High School, Fields was the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review's 2005 Football Player of the Year and the 2005-06 Athlete of the Year. The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder played in eight games last season, mostly on special teams. Fields was suspended for part of spring drills but returned after missing six practices to star in the Blue-Gold Game in April. He returned an interception 53 yards for a touchdown and had seven tackles, including two for losses. Expected to challenge fifth-year senior Mike Phillips for a starting job, Fields will now likely take a redshirt this fall and have three seasons of eligibility remaining. |
