Stoudemire, Suns reportedly close on deal
well they need to get this deal done cause he's gonna be a monster and this is great because if they lock him up that means the lakers are savin money for nothing cause in 07 they were plannin on either going after him or yao and now both will be locked up with their current teams. to bad the suns won't be no where as good as they were last year cause losein jj and Q will be a big blow to this team cause now nash don't have anyone to kick it out to for the easy three. spurs vs. heat or pacers in the finals, i can't wait.
Suns fans can breathe a little easier.
According to a report in the East Valley Tribune, Amare Stoudemire has said he will sign a five-year, $72.6 million extension with the team before it begins training camp Oct. 4.
"The Suns deal should be done here pretty soon," Stoudemire said. "We're just going over the paperwork, and we should finish it here shortly."
According to the report, Stoudemire will receive $12 million during the 2006-07 season, then earn the maximum allowable raise in each of the next four seasons, ending with a $17.04 million salary in 2010-11.
Signing Stoudemire to a long-term deal had been the impetus behind most of the Suns' off-season moves, which included dealing Quentin Richardson to the New York Knicks and Joe Johnson to the Hawks.
If Stoudemire does indeed sign the extension, he will become the second potential franchise free agent from the class of 2007 to be taken off the market this off-season. Earlier this summer, Yao Ming signed a comparable deal with the Houston Rockets.
