Steelers sign Stuvaints, cut Kranchick
 

The Steelers added depth to their defensive backfield today by signing three-year veteran safety Russell Stuvaints to their 53-man roster. Financial terms of the one-year deal were not released.

Stuvaints, a McKeesport, Pa. native, played with the Steelers in 2003 and 2004, but was released by the team in 2005 during the final roster cut of the preseason. To make room for Stuvaints on their roster, the Steelers released second-year tight end Matt Kranchick.

Stuvaints can make some plays for us, and w/ the injuries he'll give us some much needed depth. We've got plenty at the TE so that makes Matt K the odd man out.

Matt might turn out to be a pretty good TE in the NFL. I am sure someone will pick him up...

This must mean that Mike Logans hamstring injury is pretty bad, huh.

Wow, wasn't it a hamstring injury last year that ended his season...

I don't know about you guys, but I feel comfortable with Stuvaints in there. He has decent skills, and he knows the system. He can play the ball and he will lay the lumber. Plus, you gotta pull for a former Yongstown State Penguin.

Yeah, I agree BB2, the big thing is he knows the system which is key. He's not a bad backup safety.

I wish we would've moved Kranchick to WR, the guy was 6-4 and i'm sure he could run well! someone'll definately pick him up. I figured we'd pick Stuvaints up again, he's a local guy (like Logan) and he's not bad...

The fast development of Heath at TE made Matt expendable unfortunately. I agree he's got good hands and I hope he gets picked up by a good time.

Knowing our luck w/ former players, he'll wind up in the AFCN :rolleyes:

The Pittsburgh Post reported the Steelers are gonna sign him to the practice squad if he clears waivers today. :hope:

I thought you couldn't sign a 3rd year player to the PS? what are the rules with it, i know there's some kind of limit...
