Ex-sportscaster Bill Currie dies
Sad day for Pittsburgh sports talk. He was not about appeasing viewer's when it came to calling out 'popular' athletes and speaking his mind. You played like hell, he had no problem saying so. It was a refreshing to hear a man speak his mind instead of worrying about viewer ratings while slapping on the sunglasses and sugarcoating certain issues.
RIP Bill Currie and my thoughts and prayers go out to the Currie family and friends. Ex-sportscaster Bill Currie dies Tuesday, February 12, 2008 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Bill Currie, a sportscaster on KDKA-TV in the 1970s and 1980s, has died. The self-described "mouth of the South" was known for his colorful sports coats and commentaries that weren't strictly about sports. The television station reported today that Mr. Currie died of a brain hemorrhage in the town of Yelma, Wash., where he lived with his daughter. He was 85. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08043/856874-100.stm |

Bill Currie was so loved here in the Burgh and I remember him so well. He was a great sportscaster and as colorful (including his wardrobe) as they come! I have nothing but the fondest memories of Bill. RIP, Mr. Currie. :tombstone We'll never forget you.
