Steelers players received many questions when arriving in Latrobe for the start of training camp this weekend.

Some of them:

“How difficult will it be to repeat as champions?”

“How will Ben Roethlisberger focus with the pending civil lawsuit against him?”

“How would you feel about Michael Vick joining the Steelers?”

Refreshingly not among the questions was “Is Casey Hampton in football shape?”

The defensive tackle answered that question on one of the soggy St. Vincent field's Friday, as he completed all eight of his 100-yard sprints in the annual run test. Every player passed the test, which is held each year on the day the players report.

Eight 100-yard sprints without much of a break?

Yeah, you obviously have to be in pretty darn good shape to complete the test. Last year, Hampton wasn’t.

In 2008, Head Coach Mike Tomlin placed the man they call ‘Big Snack’ on the Physically Unable to Perform list after he finished only five of the sprints, while lagging 30 yards behind defensive end Brett Kiesel during one of them.

"He's overweight and he's not conditioned enough to participate at this point," coach Mike Tomlin said last year.

Hampton remained on the PUP list for about two weeks.

This year was a different story as Tomlin praised Hampton’s efforts despite him walking on the last leg of sprints.

"He did a nice job as did a lot of the other guys," Tomlin said.

Hampton, in the last year of his contract, did himself some good by working hard in the off-season as he will be playing for a new deal this year.

Training Camp Notebook

- Steelers linebacker James Harrison said yesterday that he went against the coaches on his interception return for a touchdown in the Super Bowl.

- Heath Miller will be limited to start camp as he had hernia surgery in June.

- Head Coach Mike Tomlin did not dismiss the idea of the Steelers signing Michael Vick, however there is no truth to the rumor that Vick was at the team's South Side practice facilities Friday, which was reported by ESPN Radio 1250.
