They did resign Townsend to a multi year deal.

Here is the link....

I will sleep better tonight knowing he is signed.

Here is a link with a little more detail about the signing.......

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2372706

"Townsend agreed Friday to a four-year deal for $8 million that could be worth an additional $400,000 a year with incentives. Though the signing bonus numbers weren't available, Townsend will make $3 million in the first year of the contract."

The guy deserves it in my opinion.

That is great news, although the smallest of dark clouds is whether the money spent on Townsend is money that: 1) could have gone to getting Ike Taylor signed sooner rather than later; or 2) is being spent as CB insurance because some team (Redskins?/Patriots?)may be willing to make a break the bank offer to Ike Taylor the Steelers will not match.

Deshea is a nice complementary piece of the puzzle but Taylor is a shutdown corner and his price is not going to go down.

That's great news. I'm glad to see we are investing in our own. The defense is gearing up for what should be an even more solid year next year. Looking forward to Townsend flowing around with Troy and Ryan.

This is pure speculation on my part, but maybe the Steelers feel McFadden is ready to step in and be a starter? Personally, I'm not comfortable with that scenario. While I will agree McFadden looked good this past season, I'm not sure if he's ready to step in and take Ike's place. I would like to see the Steelers give McFadden one more year of watching and learning and some play time. Just a thought.

I still feel it would be a big mistake letting Ike walk and I still don't see the Steelers letting that happen. He will be a Steeler. He's not gone yet folks! Just my prediction.

Ike should have been the priority and maybe keeping some of that cash in reserve for that purpose would have been money better spent.
The Steelers should have gotten Ike's contract taken care of first and then worry about Townsend.
