Draft prospects visiting

Found this at another board, thought it was interesting:

Thought this could be interesting. The Steelers can visit 20 prospects plus any local
players (within so many miles of complex). Here are some links to who they are looking at:

http://www.fflivewire.com/Article.as...kd6734ciq2635p
Maurice Drew, RB, UCLA
Joseph Addai, RB, LSU
Charles Spencer, OG, Pittsburgh
Daniel Bullocks, S, Nebraska
Darnell Bing, S, USC
Demetrius Williams, WR, Oregon
Daryn Colledge, OT, Boise State
Jon Alston, OLB/S, Stanford
TJ Rushing, DB, Stanford

This was in print elsewhere, but I am taking it from here:

Jason Allen is scheduled for a visit.

One other interesting tidbit, I heard that of the last three drafts, every player taken on the first day had visited with the Steelers. In other words, if he is not visiting, it is very unlikely he will be drafted by us.

That is about half our visits listed. And, honestly, if I had to rate those 10 players, I would rank them as follows and the round we would need to select them in......
1-Jason Allen-1st round
2-Daniel Bullocks-1st round
3-Joseph Addai-1st round
4-Maurice Drew-2nd round
5-Demetrius Williams-2nd round
6-Jon Alston-2nd round
7-Darnell Bing-2nd round
8-Daryn Colledge-3rd round
9-Charles Spencer-3rd round
10-TJ Rushing-2nd day

A final note, TJ Rushing is a corner from Stanford. While he is not an elite corner, he could become a solid player that moves into the dime backer role. Also, he is a monster return guy with blistering speed. That is his real value. He could replace a guy like Iwuoma as our special team DB.

Re: Draft prospects visiting

This is a bit obscure, but this kid is worth a look in Rd 4-5...(If anyone remembers, I was pimping him early last season). Good size, a blazer with 4.36-4.39 speed, and can return kicks. He's a bit of a project and needs some technique as he's only played WR for 2 years.

"He was in Tampa Bay, Fla., on Monday, and Green Bay, Wis., on Tuesday. Hixon is also scheduled to meet with officials in Cincinnati, Indianapolis, New York (Giants), Pittsburgh, San Diego and Seattle, said his agent, Eric Metz."

Jon Alston is a beast!... He played outside linebacker at Stanford but is mostly being looked at as a safety in the NFL coming in at 6-1 225lbs. He ran a 4.40/40 and was among the fastest in the shuttle drils at the combine. I like to see the Steelers are at least giving him a look.

I wouldn't (as a Steeler fan) take Jason Allen or Daniel Bullocks in the first round. I'd be very surprised if Joseph Addai goes in the first round.

Maurice Drew played well for the Bruins but he disappeared at times. I'm not sure if his height will hurt his chances of success in the NFL.

I would much rather have Demetrius Williams than Sinorice Moss - less money. He can go deep and he'll make tough catches. He'll also drop some...probably a second stringer.

It would be very sweet to see Alston or Bing in training camp.

A sleeper pick is David Kirtman. He is one of the best players on that explosive USC offense whose name you didn't hear. I'm not sure if he is projected to go in the mid- or late rounds but I'd use a 4th round pick. He is a ton of value who runs a 4.65.

Oh, he's a very coachable kid. He's Santonio Holmes sized (6'2" 192), and he's tough (Charlie Frye worked with him and they converted him from CB to WR between his Sophomore and Junior year).

For awhile, he was leading the nation in all-purpose yards, and that was at the beginning of the season when the Zips were playing Big 10 teams and such.

He's clutch, too...he caught the 40 yard bomb from Luke Getsy as time expired that won Akron the MAC Championship.

Another late round prospect visiting

Jeff Webb out of San Diego State is visiting on Friday. He is another big and strong sure-handed athlete who developed into deep threat in college.

I'm very optimistic that there are several really decent receiver prospects like Hixon to choose from in the later rounds.

This is from Maurice Drew's NFL.com Draft Diary...

Quote:

Most recently I just got back from Pittsburgh. I flew in on Wednesday night and landed around midnight. My driver gave me a tour of the city and I was surprised at what a really nice city it is. I'd never been there before, but I really liked it.

Thursday morning I woke up at 7 a.m., which was really 4 a.m. for me, only to realize that my meeting with the team wasn't until 11 a.m. Oh well. I went over to the Steelers facility and met a lot of the players, including Larry Foote and Jerome Bettis, who were both there. I also met the trainer and the running backs coach. We all had lunch then I got a tour of the facility. After lunch, I met some more players and then coach Bill Cowher. He was extremely nice and you can see why the players like playing for him. They seemed to be really interested in me, which would be great.

He's a dynamo. How long will he last? I don't know.

If I'm Colbert/Cowher then I'm looking for the guy who can take a hit at the line of scrimmage yet still maintain his balance and speed (yards after contact). Drew's low center of gravity worked well at UCLA (well not against USC) ...but in the NFL?

The Steelers' interest is - I think - a smoke screen.

He's 5'8", 205 lbs with blazing speed. Just how many Willie Parker clones does this team need?

I agree with haiku.
