Dale Earnhardt entering the International Motorsports Hall of Fame
It will be an emotional weekend at Talladega for the Earnhardt faithful, as the late Dale Earnhardt heads the Class of 2006 entering the International Motorsports Hall of Fame, which is next to Talladega Superspeedway. Earnhardt won 10 Nextel Cup races at the 2.66-mile track and was enormously popular with the Alabama fans. His son, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., will run a special black paint scheme this weekend to honor his father, who would have turned 55 this week. In addition to Earnhardt, the IMHOF inductees include former Cup star Harry Gant, pioneering female racer Janet Guthrie, car owner and industrialist Jack Roush and Lowe?s Motor Speedway President H.A. ?Humpy? Wheeler. The induction will be held Thursday night in the SPEED Dome at the Hall of Fame. In addition to the five inductees, the 2005 Driver of the Year will also be honored that evening. SPEED will air a one-hour special from the 16th Annual International Motorsports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on May 1 at 10 p.m. The special will re-air at May 6 at 1 p.m.[/I]
