Re: Orien Harris.. Welcome to the Steelers

Strengths:
Athletic with good quickness...Strong player who holds his ground at the point and gets a push...Solid run stuffer in the middle...Has a wide base...Plays with good leverage...Has a good closing burst and is a solid tackler...Experienced and has been fairly productive...Good character and team leader with excellent intangibles...Still has a bit of potential...Has strong professional bloodlines.

Weaknesses:
Has only average size...Is not very fast...Has short arms and does not use his hands well...Struggles to shed blocks...Lacks great range...Needs to develop additional pass rush moves...Has had injuries to his knee, elbow and shoulder which raises some minor durability questions...Needs to be more consistent.

Notes:
Is the brother of San Francisco 49'er and former first-round pick Kwame Harris...Interesting prospect who is probably a little overrated due to his name and the school he played for...Still has some upside and could develop but is not nearly the pro prospect it looked like he could have been earlier in his career.

Re: Orien Harris.. Welcome to the Steelers

This seems like a strange pick when Kyle Williams was available at the same spot, hope that the FO know what they are doing!

Orien Harris DT Miami

Strengths

Orien has good size for his position. He looks like he has natural athleticism and does a decent job taking up space so that the LB?s can come in and make plays. At times, he has been dominant and controlling; with his long arms, he could be a player that has the upside you look for when scouting a run stuffing D-lineman.

Needs to Improve

Orien has to get a lot stronger and learn better techniques if he wants to be more consistent and play at the next level. He did not improve this year at all. In fact, if anything, he went backwards in his play. You have to question his work ethic and heart.

Bottom Line
I?m struggling with this profile because it seems that most of the big line players in this program are all having the same problem. They show up when they want to. They play like they have injuries all season long. Then they go to the combine and show excellent athletic talent. Eric Winston and Orien Harris both have the athletic talent to play at the next level, but I just don?t think they have the heart. Winston says it?s because of a knee injury that he didn?t feel good until halfway through the season except -- he didn't even show anything at all in his last game and as far as the Senior Bowl was concerned, he was pitiful. Harris just decided that he didn?t need to show for the season at all and as far as I could tell during the Senior Bowl, he must have been up in the stands selling hot dogs because down on the field, he was dogging it. Both of these guys must think that a good showing in the combine is all that is needed to be a 1st round pick. Maybe they're right! For me personally, I think both are wasting their talent. Anyone that believes the garbage that Winston was spilling at the combine about his injury deserves to be taken. Anyone that drafts this kid in the first day of this draft because of his size and projected talent deserves to be taken also. I don?t know what to say other than both these players have the talent, but not the heart.

I trust the FO. They drafted 17 of our 22 Super Bowl starters.

"was a frustrating player to grade because"

ive seen that on at least one other steelers draft pick this year, hahah, funny, seems like we are drafting guys that didnt live up to their potential in college... lots of "projects", but maybe thats what we are good at... i really haven't been paying attention to the projects currently on the team, if there are any, i dont know of them

That's what I just did. Since his name is Rooney I figured he could offer some wisdom and his response...
