Two Players Inked to Reserve/Future Contracts
Two Players Inked to Reserve/Future Contracts
February 15th, 2011 Matt Loede http://buzztap.com/link.jsp?id=3508770&cid=36 The Steelers announced today the signing of two first-year players to Reserve/Future contracts for the 2011 season. Outside linebacker Chris McCoy (6-3, 261) and kicker Swayze Waters (5-11, 180) were each signed to one-year deals with the team. McCoy, a 2010 seventh round draft pick (212th overall) of the Miami Dolphins out of Middle Tennessee State, spent the final six weeks of the 2010 season on the Houston Texans’ practice squad. Waters was in training camp with the Oakland Raiders in 2010 after originally signing with the Detroit Lions in 2009 as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Alabama-Birmingham. |
Re: Two Players Inked to Reserve/Future Contracts
I sometimes wonder what the point of this is. Has anyone ever signed a "reserve/future contract" and ever done anything? Just wondering.

I don't know, but I love that name Swayze Waters. Almost as good as Max Power.

i'm not too sure what the details on these contracts are though, so i might be totally off. |
Re: Two Players Inked to Reserve/Future Contracts
I was of the impression that reserve/future is a term that only applies to this very offseason because the CBA is coming to a close. If I'm right, then the answer would be: no. No one has ever gone on to do anything in the NFL after being signed to a reserve/future contract. :wink02:

Did some research. From what I understand, it's just a guy who's been in the league a couple years and wasn't good enough to latch on to any roster. This is the reason I find it to be a waste of time. |
