You know the Steelers are watching tape when their off working out non-combine invites. With those numbers he'd be a great later round pick. Any idea of when he's expected to go, or any other information on him in general?

i would say between round 3 and 4. he is definatly not the must athletic guard but has huge legs and can drive block just about anyone

Could help for sure especially as a 4th rounder maybe, but still hope the team addresses guard earlier with a more blue chip player like Kevin Zeitler G, Wisc, Brandon Washington, G/OT, Miami , or Amini Silatolu, G, Midwestern State.

Weaknesses: Has some bad weight on his frame and has added over 60 pounds since he enrolled at Miami (OH) ? something that needs to be monitored. Carries a lot of weight and it shows at times, looking sluggish with heavy feet when trying to cover a lot of ground. Doesn?t have great range and wasn?t asked to do a lot of pulling for the Redhawks. Doesn?t always explode off the snap. Heavy-handed in pass protection with a bad habit of grabbing, which attracts holding penalties. Will allow his body to rise at times and he is caught too high. Needs to improve his awareness and overall vision to pick up extra rushers. Needs to stay disciplined and play smart, cutting down on the penalties and mental lapses. Has an inconsistent mean streak and needs to develop more of a finishing attitude ? too much of a passive blocker for his size.

Hmmm.....NFL comparison = Ramon Foster. Don't like the sound of that.
Looks like we would be drafting another backup lineman at best.
We need to draft "starter talent" NOT "backup talent" if the O-line is going to improve.

bingo !!! that about covers it. when your drafting most of your linemen from 3rd round on thats what you usually end up with. backup talent. there's the old saying , "you only get what you pay for " .. ben and the RB's have found out just how true that is. they've suffered physically and statistically while colbert and company have sifted through the draft rubble looking for a diamond in the ruff instead of paying for quality up front.
they could have avoided the hartwig and mayhan center problems years ago by drafting mangold , albeit at the sacrifice of holmes , but it seems to me that late round WR and RB gems are more abundant in the league than late round linemen gems.

Below is Brooks report from East West Shrine Game week.

Brandon Brooks, G, Miami (OH) -- Brooks was graded as a free agent prior to the season, but has made the long climb into the middle rounds with terrific play as a senior. Tuesday he made his case to be a top-100 pick. Brooks is well-built and fundamentally sound, and stopped all defenders that dared tried to get by him. He was terrific in one-on-one drills, then repeated that performance during scrimmage. Brooks intrigues a number of teams with his ability to play several positions on the offensive line and slot into a number of different blocking schemes in the NFL.

so maybe his pro day numbers of a sub 5.0 40 time are wrong?

funny how when a man of equal size on defense (d. Poe) runs the same time, he is the cats meow climbing up the boards.

i have a feeling if he were a DT steelerfans would be wanting him in the second round. perhaps we can convert him? :noidea:
