I, too, would be very unhappy if the Pirates would trade Jack Wilson. He is not only one of the team leaders on the field, but off the field as well. Pirates fans are already pissed off at management - I think this would send them over the edge, as Jack is one of the most popular Pirates players, if not THE fan favorite.

I don't have a problem with them trying to deal Burnitz, as his contract is fairly high for a player who hasn't come close to living up to his expectations this season, but I would be pretty damned mad if they trade Craig Wilson or Sean Casey. I think both players have more than proven their worth to this young team.

I was kind of shocked to hear this comment from a team source....

Quote:

"But that doesn't mean people aren't asking," the source said. "People are really knocking on the door for our relievers."

Huh? The Pirates' bullpen, imho, has been their achilles heel this season by not being able to hold a lead going into the late innings. Other than Gonzo and occasionally Torres, the bullpen has sucked!

Trade an overpaid underperforming shortstop? I'm all for it if they can get some pitching in return.

I'm more than 100% AGAINST IT! That man is one of the reasons the pirates have even been in any games. Any trade for wilson they're forefiting their year away when it's July when Mathmatically they're still in it.

They had better not even think of trading a guy who is the heart and soul of the team. Otherwise, McClatchy and Littlefield will have to hire the Secret Service to protect them from the angry mob that would surely be storming their offices.

As for Burnitz/C. Wilson/Casey - I think Casey will be kept, but both Craig and Burnitz will be out the door very soon if the last 3 games are any indication, as Nate McLouth has started in right field in all of them.

And even with him in the lineup they're 30-60.

WAKE UP!!!!!!

It's time to get real in Pittsburgh about what it's going to take to win. And what it takes is good veteran pitchers to head up that rotation. Jack Wilson is one man among 25. And there are no players on that roster who are untouchable. Angry mob my ass. Nobody cares about because the team has been losing. Sometime you have to dump a popular player in order to WIN.

OK...I'll play along with this....

You described Jack as "overpaid..and underperforming"...(your words)....

What type of impact pitcher would you get for a player the type that you describe?

You blast this kid...and follow it up with "we need good veteran pitchers".....

and I'm supposed to "WAKE UP"??

Clue in on this....keep the Bays, Wilsons. Sanchez's, Paulinos, Bautistas, Castillos.....

keep the Snells, Maholms, Dukes, Gonzales'....

dump..and please...FOR THE LOVE OF GOD...stop signing the Burnitz's, Randas, Hernandez's (both of em)...

Jack Wilson is NOT the problem...throwing away money on has beens and never will be's IS the problem. If we had more players with the drive and determination to win that Jack Wilson has...we wouldnt be anywhere as bad as we are...

30-60 at the break.

Why does anyone get upset at the thought of trading Jack Wilson? Do you want to win or do you just want the Pirates to hold on to your favorite players because you can't do both. Not in a market like Pittsburgh.
