Kind of a shame, in my opinion. Ward's a great player who the fans love and the team loves, but management won't give him a chance to follow in the footsteps of Jerome Bettis, who took a significant paycut to finish his career in Pittsburgh.

The money/paycut is not the primary issue.
Performance and the ability to contribute is the primary issue.
Emotions aside, what could you expect Hines to contribute next year?
Still able to block, could find a seam in the red-zone.
That's it. A very limited role to occupy a valuable roster spot with little upside.
