Randy Cosgrove, suspended earlier this month from his job as Ambridge Area School District athletic director, has resigned his longtime position as the public address announcer at Heinz Field for Steelers games.
The Steelers confirmed Thursday that he turned in his resignation this week but did not provide any other information. He had been the public address announcer for 15 years.
Mr. Cosgrove, of Coraopolis, recently also resigned his position as president of the Cornell School Board, citing "personal and health reasons."
The Ambridge superintendent suspended him April 4 while district officials review the athletic department's finances.
The school board and school officials have refused to discuss the suspension, although one member said Mr. Cosgrove, 60, was removed over "bookkeeping" issues.
Lori Byron, the finance director, has said the district is conducting an "internal review of the athletic director" but has not revealed the amount or the extent of the investigation.
Ambridge police said they are not involved.
Mr. Cosgrove has not been available for comment.
He has been the athletic director for 13 years. He previously served as athletic director at North Hills High School and assistant athletic director and director of sports information at Robert Morris University.
