COLLIER TWP. _ Ben Roethlisberger, the Pittsburgh Steelers star quarterback, missed Saturday's round at the Mario Lemieux Celebrity Invitational due to the death of his grandfather.
Roethlisberger was scheduled to play Saturday with Lemieux, the Pittsburgh Penguins owner/player, and former NBA great Michael Jordan.
Saturday morning as Lemieux limbered up at the practice range, a teary-eyed Roethlisberger approached him and told the tournament's host about his grandfather's death. After Lemieux expressed his condolences, Roethlisberger drove to his native Findlay, Ohio, to be with his family.
Roethlisberger, the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2004, will not play today in the final round at The Club at Nevillewood.
