Khan is a cap wizard but kicking the can down the road to keep aging talent is not going to work for much longer

I would feel better if a good draft clearly happened. The 1998-2000 seasons were grim times but the 1998 (Faneca, Hines, Townsend) and 1999 (Porter, Aaron Smith) draft put down the foundation for later success.
