Again, especially in light of the league changing so much offensively. Teams just don't have the inclination to try to run the ball up the gut and beat you like that any more.
It is a scoring league that the powers to be have systemically moved to take the "physical" element out of the game.
In 2000 and 2001 the league scoring average was 20.7 and 20.2.
It was 23.4 this year.
They can get a knock around vet to "take up two blockers" in the run game for 1/3 of the snaps and use the first rounder on a full time player.
I hear you, but I think that it takes a special D-lineman to "demand" a double team.
Sure, any DT can take up two blockers, but very few DTs "require" that the offense commits two blockers to him on every play.
That is what this team needs: for the opposing OC & OG to be forced to account for the NT.
