I agree with you on some level, Jerome Bettis was definitely just not on the same level as some of the backs you listed, but at the same time I don't see how you can have guys like Shannon Sharpe, Cris Carter, and Marshall Faulk make the hall in recent years and not include The Bus. All of those guys fit the "very good but not all-time great" argument you provided.

If the Hall was a exclusive as you seem to want it to be, I would agree, but clearly in recent years it has taken a turn towards "The Hall of Very Good" and it would just seem like a double-standard to me to exclude Bettis for the reasons you listed when there have clearly been some others who have made it recently with the same criticisms.

Not to mention Bettis was an extremely unique player and redefined how we view "power backs"...all stats and awards aside that has to count for something too. Yes there were other "big backs" but none who racked up the stats and had the endurance that Bettis did.
