Default Ellen Page comes out as gay at Las Vegas conference for LGBT teens

Good for her! I'm glad she finally became comfortable enough with herself to admit it.

“Juno” who just came out?

"I am tired of hiding," Hollywood actress Ellen Page announced Friday at an LGBT youth conference in Las Vegas. "I'm tired of lying by omission.
Actress Ellen Page came out as gay at a Las Vegas conference for LGBT teens.

"I’m here today because I am gay," Page, 26, told the audience to a raucous standing ovation. "And because maybe I can make a difference. To help others have an easier and more hopeful time. Regardless, for me, I feel a personal obligation and a social responsibility."

The “Inception” star, who burst onto the acting scene with her role as a pregnant Minnesota teen in 2007’s “Juno,” delivered the news to a group of LGBT teens at Time to THRIVE, a conference at Bally’s Hotel and Casino in Vegas.

"It’s weird because here I am, an actress, representing — at least in some sense — an industry that places crushing standards on all of us," Page said. "Not just young people, but everyone. Standards of beauty. Of a good life. Of success. Standards that, I hate to admit, have affected me."

The website for the Human Rights Campaign, which hosted the conference in Nevada, congratulated the star for her “brave decision to live openly and authentically.”

The Canadian-born actress also starred as Kitty Pryde in a recurring role in the "X-Men" series. The latest film, "X-Men: Days of Future Past," is due out this year.

Page cited “football hero Michael Sam” and Laverne Cox from "Orange is the New Black" as two inspirations for her decision.

Sam, a former University of Missouri defensive end, made waves this week when he announced he was gay.

The 24-year-old is expected to be drafted into the NFL as the league's first openly gay player.

"Happy Valentine's Day," an emotional Page finished her eight-minute long speech. "I love you."
