40 years ago when Noll was hired and succeeded, due in some part to the tutelage of Sid Gillman, did people call Pittsburgh 'San Diego East'?

A gutsy part of the Noll hire (after Joe Paterno turned the Steelers down - Steelers were the Browns of the 60s) was that it was after Namath torched a Colts defense coached up by Noll as Shula's assistant

Noll was brought on after Steelers took a shot at being Green Bay South by hiring Lombardi's OL coach Bill Austin, which did not work out too well (11-28-3 in three seasons)
