It is really interesting stuff. My wife is switching from Psychology (which she earned her Bachelor's) to Sociology for her Masters. Her thesis will have something to do with improving retention of non-traditional students (minorities, students from low-income families, and handicapped students). She's already read a ton of existing research and is trying to come up with a question that hasn't yet been asked.

I'm mainly interested in somehow measuring the amount of empathy in a given society and how it affects things like public funding of social programs, income inequality, etc.
