My problem with all this is that it seems to forget the purpose of the extra point. Scoring the touchdown grants you a privileged easy extra point so that one touchdown is better than two field goals. If you start making extra points harder, you start to devalue TDs.
This is just like the debate over fair-catching punts. A punt is a privilege granted to the offense so that they don't have to defend deep in their own territory. If you took away fair catches, you'd be unbalancing 4th downs and rewarding stalled drives with another cheap way to extend them.
