I heard an interesting quote from Yogi Berra once back in the early '90s - he was on a tribute show for Jackie Robinson - he said prejudice was only part of the reason blacks were not allowed into the majors - he said it was more because the guys in the majors knew how good the players were in the negro leagues...none of them wanted to lose their jobs - he said a lot of minor league teams would compete against the negro league in exhibitions and get annihilated on a regular basis...some of the older stars of the negro league on the same show said they had a higher level of competition in a much smaller league and a lot of them have the same attitude as the gentleman in this story - they felt like they played against the best and they didn't need MLB to vindicate anything...these kind of stories fascinate me -- thanks for posting this...
