Default Re: Russell’s red flags could make Quinn the first QB drafted in ’07

Russell played poorly in almost every big game he played in. The kid has Akili Smith/Kordell Stewart written all over him...

Huh??? I've been watching him for three years, and he's had several signature wins.

As a redshirt freshman in 2004, he came into the Cap One Bowl in relief and brought LSU back from a two-touchdown deficit (LSU lost on a defensive breakdown on the final play.)

In 2005, he led the Tigers to a 10-2 record (including the SECCG in which he was injured). That included wins over Auburn and then-#3 and undefeated Alabama, both in overtime.

This past season, he played four road games against top ten teams and went 2-2. Statistically, his worst game was Florida (three INTs) but two of those were tipped by his own receivers and the third went through an LSU receiver's alligator arms. He beat Tennessee in a pressure situation--TD pass with nine seconds left. He lit up Arkansas with a BCS at large bid on the line. He made mincemeat of Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl.

His only mental shortcoming is a tendency to make bad decisions as a runner.
