Three Steelers starters are listed as questionable for the Monday night game in San Diego, including wide receiver Hines Ward (hamstring), linebacker Joey Porter (knee) and cornerback Ike Taylor (knee). After missing practice on Monday, Ward said he would play against the Chargers. Ward injured the hamstring in the fourth quarter of the Steelers' 23-20 loss to New England on Sept. 25 at Heinz Field. He resumed playing, after having the injury wrapped, and caught a 4-yard touchdown pass to tie it at 20-20.
# Six Steelers are probable: CB Ricardo Colclough (ankle), LB James Farrior (back), RB Jerome Bettis (calf), RB Duce Staley (knee), WR Sean Morey (hamstring) and CB Deshea Townsend (foot).
# Bettis said Monday he was ready to play this week, though the decision had to be made by coach Bill Cowher. When asked if he'd dress four tailbacks - Willie Parker, Bettis, Staley and Verron Haynes - Cowher was non-commital.
"We'll see how the week unfolds and go from there."
# Staley made his first appearance of the season against New England, but did not log a carry. He was one of three active tailbacks for that game, joining Parker, the league's 10th leading rusher, and Haynes, a third-down back with 64 rushing yards. Now, with Bettis ready to go, there is a logjam, though Cowher is comfortable with things.
"They are all very unselfish guys and that certainly will make my job easier (in choosing who plays)," Cowher said. "While it's a tough decision to make, they have recognized it, and, that position has epitomized the unselfishness on this team the last couple of years."
