Running back Jerome Bettis arrived at the Steelers practice facility on Monday morning to join his teammates for the first day of their voluntary off-season program.
It created quite the buzz, with teammates and coaches happy to see him and many others wondering if he was coming back for the 2005 season.
"Yeah, I?m back," said Bettis after a long workout. "I hadn?t left. I never left."
Bettis has every intention of playing in 2005. But he did give his future plenty of thought since the 2004 season ended. Retirement was the hot topic surrounding him and he heard about it every where he went, especially from his teammates who were always giving their pitch for him to come back.
"They have been in my face," said Bettis. "Every time I see them that?s the only question they ask me. I can?t leave. If I leave I might get beat up.
