It was a sad week for Pittsburgh this week as they lost all four games they played this week—and have now lost five in a row.
The loss against the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday was surprising given the fact that the Penguins gave up a 3-0 lead.
Jordan Staal was the first to score for Pittsburgh. His 11th of the season came from Tyler Kennedy. Bill Guerin scored his 12th with minutes left in the first. The Penguins goal was assisted by Brooks Orpik and Kris Letang.
And then less than a minute and a half into the second period, Chris Kunitz extended Pittsburgh’s lead by three. It was Captain Sidney Crosby who set up Kunitz, who put one over the shoulder of Buffalo goalie Ryan Miller. Pascal Dupuis also assisted.
After that Pittsburgh goal, Ryan Miller after allowing three goals on 11 shots. Patrick Lalime replaced him and did a good job—he stopped all 27 shots he faced.
But the tables were turned when Buffalo was awarded a penalty shot in the second period after officials ruled that Jay McKee illegally stopped a puck from going in the net with his body. Drew Stafford took on goalie Marc-Andre Fleury—and beat him with a wrist shot, making the score 3-1.
The Sabres got the boost they needed with that goal. But Stafford wasn’t done yet. He scored a second goal by picking up his own rebound. So at the end of the second period Pittsburgh was still in the lead 3-2.
