PITTSBURGH, PA —
It was over when...
In the final three minutes with Pittsburgh edging New Orleans 26-24 Rashard Mendenhall drove 65 yards on 7 plays to put time off the clock for the victory formation.
Game Ball
Rashard Mendenhall carried the ball a career high 32 times for 160 yards. He averaged 5 yards per carry and had a longest gain of 21 yards that sealed the deal.
The Pittsburgh Steelers faced the New Orleans Saints in there home season opener.
The Saints are known for their high octane offense. Not today as they were restricted to 203 total yards and got lucky with a kickoff returned 90 yards for a touchdown.
In what was another close game for the Steelers they improve to 2-0. They opended the game and ended their drive with a screen pass to Reggie Bush who ran in it for a touchdown against his former team.
Did they get lucky with Drew Brees going off with an injury? Maybe but Terrelle Pryor didn't do so bad, Terrelle and Drew Brees evaded getting sacked which means the Steelers still have no sacks after two games into the regular season. Jerry Gray the defensive Co-Ordinator doesn't blitz much but the coverage again is the best in the NFL.
The Steelers targeted the right side of the New Orleans Saints defense and gained most of there yards that direction "I just kept finding holes and burst through them" Mendenhall told press reporters. Ben Roethlisberger threw for 185 yards and 2 touchdowns as the offense destroyed a weak Saints defense.
Next Week they travel to the West Coast to face the 1-1 San Diego Chargers.
The Steelers signed Greg Wesley who came out of retirement in hopes of stopping the poor return coverage that haunted them in the 2009 and some parts of the 2010 season.
