TEAM STARS & STRIPES CONTINUE TO IMPRESS ON THE PRACTICE FIELD IN PARIS IN PREPARATION FOR GLOBAL BOWL FRANCE
Tuesday, March 16, 2010 - Paris, France - Team Stars & Stripes finished their second practice as a team at the Bois de Boulogne Park with only two more practices remaining before taking on the Brussels Junior All-Star Team in the 2010 Global Bowl France on Saturday, March 20.
The traveling all-star team of 36 high school seniors is led by three-time Arizona state champion Coach Jeff Scurran and assistant coaches John Storey (Villa Angela-Saint Joseph), Andrew Krause (Santa Rita), and Bill Gallagher (Episcopal Academy).
Team Stars & Stripes look like they have been practicing together for more than only two practices with both the offense and defense developing quickly.
"The biggest challenge is to get the players into a team quickly," said assistant coach Bill Gallagher. "We do not have that many practices, so we have to get them into the right position. We are running basic kind of stuff to allow them to make some plays."
The morning practice started with position drills moving onto 7 on 7. Later in the practice, the quarterbacks again showcased their receivers in offensive skill drills as Shane Belle (Ginn Academy) made multiple catches.
During the team's offensive pass and run drills, Team Stars & Stripes speed' was evident as Tamarin Jones (Santa Rita) took some repetitions. The offensive line showed their size and talent which was led by Erie Cathedral Prep senior John Gianoni.
"When you are on an all-star team the game is all about the fundamentals," said Gianoni. "Fundamentals and skill is where the game is going to be won. This team has both.
"I'm not sure how we will match up against the Brussels Junior All-star team. We will definitely have the upper hand, because being from the United States we have been playing football since we were very young."
The past two Global Challenge Bowls held in Kawasaki, Japan in 2008 and 2009 have featured Cathedral Prep athletes which is Global Football President Patrick Steenberge's alma mater.
Following the practice, Team Stars & Stripes visited the famous Notre Dame Cathedral and experienced the French public transportation system riding the Metro to the famous landmark.
After being exposed to the impressive architecture and views of the Notre Dame Cathedral, the team went to the Latin Corner to have dinner.
Team Stars & Stripes will hold their third practice on Wednesday morning and in the afternoon will visit the Louvre Museum and go to the Eiffel Tower in the evening.
The event is organized by Texas-based Global Football and is the fifth Team Stars & Stripes venture, following two Global Challenge Bowl games in Kawasaki, Japan (2008, 2009), Global Bowl Bristol (UK, October 2009) and the Tazon de Estrellas (Mexico, December 2009).
