Lowes Motor Speedway repaved.....
Repaving of the 1.5-mile oval at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C., has been completed and a tire test has been scheduled March 28 and 29 by Goodyear, which furnishes tires for all of NASCAR's top three series.
With paving crews now working on the aprons and pit road, workers have begun reinstalling the energy-absorbing SAFER barriers which were removed when the $3.5-million project started in early January.
"Everything is right on schedule," said Lowe's president and general manager H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler. "The weather has been very cooperative and the paving is finished between the inside white line and the outside wall."
This marks the third time the entire track has been repaved since Lowe's opened in 1960 as Charlotte Motor Speedway. The first new layer of asphalt was applied in 1973 and the entire track was paved again before the 1994 season. In between, the track's corners received fresh coats of asphalt in 1979 and 1987.
