0:00:
The Penguins drop the opener at CONSOL Energy Center, 3-2.

1:13:
A golden chance for the Penguins to send the game to overtime. Goligoski just drew a hooking penalty on Blair Betts, putting the Pens on a late power play. Fleury is out for a sixth attacker.

2:25:
Unbelievable save by Fleury as he flashes his right pad to deny Jeff Carter from two feet away. That looked like a sure Philly goal.

2:55:
Dupuis rings a slap shot off the outside of the post to the left of Bobrovsky.

3:46:
The fans have a "Let's Go Pens!" chant going to help inspire the home team.

8:18:
Fans, make sure to pick up your commemorative ticket from tonight's game. Click here for more information.

9:05:
Pittsburgh dodges another bullet as James van Riemsdyk rings a shot off the post behind a startled Fleury.

11:00:
Malkin's out of the box and both teams are back at even strength.

13:00:
The crowd is none too pleased as Evgeni Malkin is called for a hooking penalty in the offensive zone. Either way, what a third period we have had through the first seven minutes. As I was writing the Malkin penalty, Talbot and Carcillo picked up coincidental roughing penalties.

14:46:
The Penguins get the Giroux goal right back Zbynek Michalek floats a wrist shot from the center point that is deflected by Alex Goligoski in the slot and past Bobrovsky with one second remaining on the man-advantage. Kunitz picks up the second assist. Flyers 3, Penguins 2.

15:05:
A turnover by the Penguins results in Claude Giroux undressing Fleury and tossing a shot into the cage as he slid along the ice for the shorthanded tally. Flyers 3, Penguins 1.

16:36:
Crosby rips a one-timer off the post from the top of the near circle.

16:45:
The Penguins are flying right now and the result is a power play as Meszaros is whistled for knocking a Penguin to the ice. Pittsubrgh is 0-for-3 thus far on the man-advantage.

1916:
And that's the first-ever Penguins goal at CONSOL Energy Center by Tyler Kennedy ... KENNEDY!!!!!! Paul Martin makes a beautiful cross-ice pass to Kennedy in the far circle and he buries a shot over the shoulder of Bobrovsky to cut the lead in half. Flyers 2, Penguins 1.

20:00:
Do the Penguins have the first come-from-behind victory at CONSOL Energy Center in them? We'll find out over the next 20 minutes.

THIRD PERIOD

SECOND PERIOD NOTES:
- Sidney Crosby was great on faceoffs in the second period, going 6-1.
- The Penguins are outhitting the Flyers, 27-25.
- Crosby leads all players on both teams in ice time with 15:24 minutes.

0:00:
Not the second period the Penguins envisioned as Philadelphia strikes twice on goals by Danny Briere and Blair Betts to take a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes. Pittsburgh still hold the advantage in shots, 24-19.

0:30:
The Penguins have Malkin, Crosby and Kunitz together for the second-consecutive shift

.

2:45:
Well, it's going to take a comeback here tonight if the Penguins hope to come back and win tis hockey game. Blair Betts just staked the Flyers to a two-goal advantage by pouncing on the loose puck created by Darroll Powe's rebound and guiding the puck into the cage. Flyers 2, Penguins 0.

4:04:
It pains me to write this, but Scott Hartnell just made a great defensive play to prevent the Penguins from picking up a shorthanded goal. Hartnell hustled back and dove to the ice to keep Talbot from slipping a pass over to Dupuis for a one-timer that surely would have been a goal had the puck got through.

5:00:
Unfortunately when Orpik tried giving Briere another piece of free candy the referee deemed it sour, sending Orpik off tothe penalty box for two minutes for hooking.

5:18:
Brooks Orpik just dished out the first free candy at CONSOL Energy Center as he rocked Danny Briere to the ice with a thunderous check along the near boards.

8:00:
The Penguins will take a third crack on the man-advantage as Coburn was given an interference penalty.

8:54:
Letestu and Kennedy continue to generate quality scoring chances as they both almost combine to stuff a rebound behind Bobrovsky.

11:56:
The Flyers have had the better of the play the beginning of this period and a Claude Giroux hit post is the only thing that prevented the Flyers from going up 2-0.

14:04:
Mark Letestu just wrang a shot off the post from the top of the doorstep after a great setup from Kennedy.

14:25:
Pittsburgh spent almost the entire two minutes in the Flyers zone and did everything but score on the PP.

15:50:
Great defensive play by Carle as he sneaks a stick in to make a great defensive play to deny Crosby from throwing the puck into an open net.

16:25:
Flyers tough guy Jody Shelley just picked up a goaltender interference penalty.

17:09:
Well, we know who is going to score the first-ever goal here now. Danny Briere just re-directed a Mike Richards pass over the shoulder of Fleury from the right of the goal to pick up the power-play tally. Flyers 1, Penguins 0.

17:15:
The Penguins are on the GNC penalty kill for the second time as Deryk Engelland was whistled for hooking.

17:50:
Beautiful toe-drag move by Malkin at the top of the near dot to create space for himself. His shot was then stopped by Bobrovsky.

18:50:
Great recovery by Kris Letang as he got back into the play and cleared a cross-ice pass from Ville Leino to Scott Hartnell. Otherwise it would have been a great scoring chance for the Flyers.

20:00:
Who is going to get that historical first goal here at CONSOL Energy Center? We are still waiting to find out.

SECOND PERIOD

FIRST PERIOD NOTES:

- Mike Comrie led the Penguins in the opening period with four shots on goal.
- Pascal Dupuis had a team-high three hits.
- Brooks Orpik laid his body down in front of three Philadelphia shots.

Fans are lined up outside the American Eagle Outfitters Gate where the Penguins have the outdoor screen set up for fans who could not attend to watch the game.

0:00:
The opening period at CONSOL Energy Center goes by without either team finding the back of the net. Pittsburgh controls the play, outshooting the Flyers by a 15-9 count.

0:52:
Matt Cooke had the Penguins' best scoring chance on a loose puck in the crease, but the Penguins ultimately fail to score on the power play.

2:52:
An unbelievable shift down low by Tangradi, Dupuis and Letestu not only nearly results in the opening goal, it puts the Penguins on the power play for the first time. Sean O'Donnell is the guilty party for the Flyers.

5:24:
Comrie scored the first preseason goal at CONSOL Energy Center, and thus far has had the best chances to pick up the first regular-season tally as well. Bobrovsky just robbed him for a second time by making a pad save from the top of the paint as Malkin found Comrie all alone in front.

7:51:
Matt Cooke takes the first penalty at CONSOL Energy Center as he is given a hooking penalty.

7:51:
At the second television timeout of the period the Penguins are honoring the memory of the late public address announcer, John Barbero, who passed away this summer. Barbero was an institution at the Civic Arena for years and was the best in the business. When a shot of his family was shown on the scoreboard, they received a well-deserved standing ovation.Mondesi's House is hosting an event to honor Barbero. Click here for more details.

9:07:
Comrie and Malkin continue to set each other up. Off the rush, Malkin just hit Comrie as the late guy, but Comrie's shot went right into the stomach of Bobrovsky.

9:45:
The house was ready to explode as Pascal Dupuis and Crosby came down two-on-one against Bobrovsky. Dupuis fed a pass over to Crosby in the right circle, but his one-timer just went off the outside of the net wide. What a fitting way to open the building that would have been.

10:39:
Back-to-back icing calls against the Flyers resulted in their head coach, Peter Laviolette, using their only timeout.

11:00:
Bobrovsky makes the first big save in CONSOL Energy Center as he denies a one-timer in the high slot from Malkin by making a save with his midsection. That shot and the ensuing pressure came as the Penguins loaded their offensive line following an icing call with Malkin, Crosby and Comrie.

13:00:
Looks like the referees are going to let the boys play a little bit. Brooks Orpik and Scott Hartnell just mixed it up in the Penguins zone with nothing called. That came a couple minutes after a hooking penalty against Philadelphia went uncalled.

14:43:
Tyler Kennedy really has a lot of jump for the Penguins here through the first two shifts. He's already hit a post and has been effective creating scoring chances with his speed to the outside. That's a good sign and a continuation of his strong play against Detroit in the final exhibition contest.

18:09:
Mike Comrie records the first Pittsburgh shot at the new arena as he wraps the puck around from behind the net on Bobrovsky. Paul Martin came sliding in for the rebound and he hit the second post of the minute for Pittsburgh.

18:59:
Tyler Kennedy records the first Penguins scoring chance as he rips a shot off the post from the far circle.

19:29:
Marc-Andre Fleury makes the first official save at CONSOL Energy Center by denying a Braydon Coburn slap shot from the right point.

20:00:
Mark it down in the history books, Crosby wins the opening faceoff at 7:16 PM. A new era is under way!

FIRST PERIOD

7:13 PM:
Jeff Jimerson just completed another thrilling rendition of the national anthem and now it's time for the ceremonial opening faceoff. Dropping the puck are Penguins owner Mario Lemieux and NHL commissioner Gary Bettman. Team captains Sidney Crosby and Mike Richards are participating.

7:01 PM:
It's time for the crowd to meet the 2010-11 Pittsburgh Penguins! We are seconds away from player introductions here at CONSOL Energy Center.

6:58 PM:
Mario Lemieux is now at center ice - yes, the place is going crazy! - with that jar of water ... he has now poured it onto center ice so that the memories of the Civic Arena can live here forever! Wow was that amazing!

6:55 PM:
The next video starts off with a remembrance of the Civic Arena. The snow was shoveled off the ice, melted and placed in a jar as highlights fill the other half of the screen. Another great video by the Penguins Game Entertainment staff led by Rod Murray, Billy Wareham and Steve Finerty. I think everyone has the chills right now!!!

6:54 PM:
The lights are off here at CONSOL Energy Center and a video narrated by the legendary Mike Lange is being played. Cameras are flashing everywhere as fans cannot wait to welcome the Penguins for the first time at the new arena.
