I'm not entirely sure, but I think dual-booting works best when Windows is the original, Linux second. I've been able to get most everything working under Ubuntu - either with an open source alternative (OpenOffice, etc.) or with wine - so I stopped dual-booting several years ago. I may not be the authority on this, in other words.
