Veteran Minimum for 2012 looks to be $925,000 for 10+ years of service.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...nder-new-deal/ So lots of people on here have been clamoring "The Steelers didn't even offer him Vet Minimum! He wanted a paycut! etc." without putting out there or possibly understanding what the Vet Minimum was. With a real number out there, $925,000, what's everyone's thoughts on whether a one-year contract for Hines would be worth it? |

I don't think so. Wouldn't pay someone nearly a million dollars to play fifth string and without Special Team duties. That's what wide out's in that depth chart position do, and Ward can't do it. Giving Ward the vet min would basically be a donation.

Hell I wish I could get paid a million dollars to come in once or twice a game and not play on kickoff's and punts. Hell yeah.

would rather get a rookie in the 5th-6th round if we need a #5 wr. our FO does a good job of getting good receivers late in the draft, why not let them do their thing?
hines is my favorite steeler of all time, but at this point, and answering the OP's question.... no |

Absolutely, positively he is worth the vet min to me. He makes all other WR on our roster better with his experience, values, and ability to teach them how important it is to block as a Steelers WR.

Sounds like he should be making 950,000 as a coach, not as a player.

There's all kinds of reasons to say yes to that, but I hear that he would've counted against the cap for a bit more than that. All that aside, if it was $950k and that's all it hit the cap, then absolutely I would bring him back for at least one more year.

![]() It was time. Sad but true. Time to move on. Time to deepen our WR pool via draft. Hines, Farrior, Smith.......Hampton should be next. It's time to re-tool now to avoid rebuilding later. It sucks to loose lifelong Steelers, but it always happens. |

I agree...Everybody wants players to coach....The Rooneys pay good money to Coaches and assistants for just that reason....To coach!

Exactamumdo.
4th or 5th wr plays ST, not much expections to the rule. I bet if someone goes down, and Hines is out there we may see him back. But keep inmind not only was he a 4th or 5th guy this year, he rarely practiced with the team. So in all fairness the kids gloves need to come off and everyone treated equal. Hines has been breaking down and it was time. |
