Are we still talking about Mendenhall? Isn't he gone yet? Why is it someone so non-special gets all kinds of attention? I really hate to see a player suffer a potentially career ending injury, but the sooner Mendy isn't a Steeler anymore, the happier I'll be.

As unlikely as it is that we'll actually do anything about RB in terms of FA or a trade, I think it's equally unlikely that the Steelers are as satisfied with their RB corps as many fans seem to think. There's literally nothing there and as big a fan favorite as Redman seems to be, he is really, really unproven still. There's a big difference between performing well as a change-of-pace back that defenses hardly account for and getting limited carries, and suddenly taking on a full RB job in a 16 game season and taking 20+ carries a game. Redman could very well wind up just as disappointing as Mendy in that situation, if not more.

As for Clay, Dwyer, Batch, that's even worse. Batch looked promising last summer but of course hasn't played a down. Dwyer and Clay are really not worth talking about at this point, neither would have even been on the team last year were it not for Moore and Batch going down.

I really wouldn't be surprised if a RB is selected in the first 4 rounds. I would not expect it in the first of course but I would hardly be surprised if a David Wilson, Lamar Miller, or Lamichael James is taken in round 2.

Regardless of how our young backs got a shot to perform, when they did, they performed. That's enough in any coaches books to expect a great stable of young backs to fight for a roster spot early on, and I doubt we'll pick up another on early in the draft. Maybe late.

You would think that Steeler fans would get excited about the free agents we're not going to sign, and the major trades we're not going to pull off, because - let's face it - we're not going to do any of these things. Instead, there's the constant string of big transaction wishes from everyone. weird.

When I ran that through Google Translate it translated to:

Off-Season. It's as simple as that.

I enthusiastically support this idea, even if we need to give up multiple draft picks (third and lower, preferably) for him. You know Carolina is looking to deal either him or Stewart after bringing in Tolbert; Lord knows they don't need three running backs of that caliber when their quarterback may be the best runner out of all of them. We simply can't go into a season with four unproven backs and nothing else (not saying they don't have potential.) I love Redman and I have faith in him but he's yet to show he can shoulder the full load, least of all with a guy we signed in Week 15, a guy who has a history of injury problems and another who didn't even make it out of camp last year.

I don't get the resistance to the idea of signing another back by so many fans. Running back is still an important position, we are the Pittsburgh Steelers after all and we need to solidify our ground game IMHO.

While I am biased when it comes to Stewart since I went to HS with the guy, I think he would be a good fit in the City of Champions.

Stewart has been mostly a ST and split back in Carolina. He's still only 25, so as a full-time starter he could really display his full potential (think Marshawn Lynch in Seattle, minus the skittle eating).

The only thing is, even if it became a realistic possibility for him to sign/be traded here and sign a fair deal, he may not be that much better than (or a contrast/break from) Isaac Redman... we won't know until Redman is given his shot as a featured back.

Granted, I believe Stewart could be a 75+% version of The Bus, even with his obvious injury problems (he's going to miss 3-4 games a year as a featured back) and the woeful OL.

However, hypotheticals and well-wishing aside, I don't see J-Stew in black and gold.

It's a nice dream though.
