Default RB John Clay waved/injured

bad hamstring (explains why we saw so much batch in the last game). Looks like barons spot on the roster is secure if he stays healthy.

Bob Labriola ‏@BobLabriola
Another move: RB John Clay is waived/injured. RB Jay Ford, 5-10, 238, Illinois, is signed to take the spot.

FA RB for the taking

Olympian Jeff Demps hopes to play in the NFL in 2012

The Olympic silver medalist has signed a standard representation agreement for football, a souce close to Demps said Tuesday, with the goal of playing in the 2012 season. Demps recently returned from London, where he took part in Team U.S.A.'s 4x100-meter relay heat and earned his hardware.

Suddenly, a speedy, likely coveted free agent is on the market midway through training camp.

With the Gators, Demps earned NCAA titles in the 60-meet dash indoors and the 100-meter dash outdoors. On the football field, he gained 2,470 rushing yards and had 23 touchdowns in a stellar career. He was also a kick returner with 28.8 yards per return, showing explosiveness.

Demps went undrafted in the 2012 NFL Draft after telling teams he would be a full-time track athlete. Plans changed.

Demps, the 5-foot-8, 190-pounder, is looking for a team.

The Steelers also signed rookie running back Jason Ford. He signed with the Houston Texans as an undrafted rookie free agent out of the University of Illinois in May. Ford will wear No. 21.

We won't need him come the regular season. Purely a camp body to take some of the beatings.

We'll be fine with Redman, Batch, Dwyer, and Rainey..... as long as they stay healthy.

I'm going to miss John Clay. Guy was a beast and pretty fun to watch in college. I'll remember his first TD on his first ever carry against the Rams last year.
