Olympian Jeff Demps hopes to play in the NFL in 2012

The Olympic silver medalist has signed a standard representation agreement for football, a souce close to Demps said Tuesday, with the goal of playing in the 2012 season. Demps recently returned from London, where he took part in Team U.S.A.'s 4x100-meter relay heat and earned his hardware.

Suddenly, a speedy, likely coveted free agent is on the market midway through training camp.

With the Gators, Demps earned NCAA titles in the 60-meet dash indoors and the 100-meter dash outdoors. On the football field, he gained 2,470 rushing yards and had 23 touchdowns in a stellar career. He was also a kick returner with 28.8 yards per return, showing explosiveness.

Demps went undrafted in the 2012 NFL Draft after telling teams he would be a full-time track athlete. Plans changed.

Demps, the 5-foot-8, 190-pounder, is looking for a team.

Don't we already have a small fast guy from Florida on the team?

Yep, and believe it or not, Demps is faster. In pads, at least. In fact, Demps may be the fastest NFL player EVER if he signs with a team.

so the only difference other than a few pounds and milliseconds is that demps was dedicated to be a full time track athelete and rainey was dedicated to being a full time nfl player?
