Timmons not happy with $21,000 fine

Lawrence Timmons got the dreaded at FedEx envelope at his locker this week -- the kind the NFL sends to players it has fined. Timmons said he was fined $21,000 for his hit on Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez. "What can you do? I was just playing ball," Timmons said. "I lowered my target like you're supposed to do. I can't help it if he slides or falls. It's a tough spot to be in." As for the fine, which is the NFL's minimum, Timmons said, "Any time you get fined, it's a lot of money." The take here? The fine was fair. I hear what Timmons is saying about Sanchez's helmet suddenly lowering, but Timmons launched himself like a missile.

The NFL was right with this one.

horrible effing call. Timmons led with his right shoulder. Dirty Sanchez was running at him and threw at the last minute. No way for a guy in pursuit going full speed to pull up. Goodell is doing to football what Obama is doing to this country.

The Timmons fine I understand, you have to know not to launch yourself high at a QB in today's NFL.

sorry man, but in today's nfl rule book it was an illegal hit. still hit the quarterback in the head whether he hit with the shoulder or not. and there was helmet to helmet contact making this an easy call.

like everyone else here, i prefer the old rules and hard hitting, but that nfl is in the past and we gotta accept that.

now if he hit sanchez in the chest instead then i would be saying that's a BS fine

Yea, I'm aware, and as you said, that rule is silly. Be rewarded for not paying attention during a game. Maybe people who get hit by cars when running into traffic without looking should start a campaign to get a flag thrown on drivers, too.

was NOT the same after that hit. Hence Steelers won easily in the second half.

Exactly right. Some 15 yard penalty ARE worth it. And this was one of them.
