On the plus side...for people who don't want to mope around.

There were several areas in which the Steelers excelled in, despite faltering in the final moments of the game (I think sometimes losses in a close game are worse than a blow out...) So, maybe we can talk about those aspects of the game instead of looking to lop off (insert a coach's name here). For instance...

Ben Roethlisberger was 36-49, for 384 yds and 4 TDs. He once again converted several 3rd downs and even a 4th down - some of them quite long. No interceptions (a big improvement over the 4 he committed the last time the Steelers lost to the "lowly Raiders") Not shabby at all.

Brown almost returned a punt for 7 - although a flag nullified it, Brown showed a great deal of potential in that area and was a sign of good things to come. Our receivers were very good for the most part, especially Heath and Wallace - but really, some mistakes aside, the offense seems to be gelling under Haley's direction - something I wasn't expecting to see until much later in the season.

We played a Raiders team that is likewise getting accustomed to some radical changes, including a new coach and Palmer leading an offense that he finally appears to be getting an affinity with. Gotta hand it to them - they gave us their A game, 110%. And yet, in spite of that, we came very close to winning.

Even our suddenly hated D put on a good show in spurts - it looked especially promising with an opening interception. The D has to do a lot more of that. And give our stellar offense a break - if that happens, this team has a very reasonable chance to make it to playoffs or better.

the field sucked.... combo football and baseball ?.... the infield got the uniforms too dirty

On the plus side we get next week off from watching the paper thin defense, I would rather Ben have 100 yds. passing and get a win than have him throw for 384 yds. and get a loss, no pluses for me after this week, sorry!

I was wondering about that myself - I kept thinking the game was switched to a baseball game or something and thought to myself several times "Oh, right - we're playing in the black hole."

the plus side is that I have better faith in this team at home than on the road as of now

Look at it this way. There are 2-3 Elite teams in the NFL and we are not one of them. We are a .500 team and 0-2 on the road. It is what it is. The best news in sports is that we do not suck as bad as the Pirates and we have not given up so pathetically. WR's lost this game. Yes D sucks but we can't keep fumbling as we see it catches up with us. Brown changed the momentum completely.
