as for Jason Worilds, today was by far the best I have ever seen him play. it sure would be nice to see him continue to build on today's performance and become the clear successor to James Harrison.
I agree Foote has been consistent; but maybe watching Timmons turn it up a notch; he just looked really slow. Not throwing him under the bus; but i believe if they had someone comparable to Timmons in the middle; Timmons would be a monster.

Timmons was able to scrape to the RB on some stretch plays, he blitzed well. Foote continued to show me that he is a backup who is forced to play because of lack of drafting a suitable replacement.

Timmons is Digest Player of Week

by Bob Labriola
Steelers Digest

Leading up to the game against the Philadelphia Eagles, two of the tasks facing the Steelers defense were to control RB LeSean McCoy and get pressure on QB Michael Vick without allowing him to break contain.

Lawrence Timmons had a hand in both of those things.

The Steelers limited McCoy to 53 yards on 16 carries (3.3 average), sacked Vick three times, hit him eight times and recovered two of his fumbles along the way to a 16-14 win at Heinz Field.

Timmons led the Steelers with nine tackles, including two for loss, he hit Vick twice and forced a fumble, and it was his penetration on a first half play that helped Ziggy Hood get his sack. Timmons is the Steelers Digest Player of the Week.

Also considered were Rashard Mendenhall, who managed to look like he was in midseason form even though this was his first game action of any kind since New Year’s Day in Cleveland. Mendenhall finished with 81 yards rushing (5.8 average) that included a 13-yard touchdown to go along with two catches for 20 more yards; Ben Roethlisberger, whose 72.7 passer rating on the day was skewed by too many drops by his receivers; Larry Foote, who had eight tackles and recovered two fumbles, including one in the end zone for a touchback; and Jason Worilds, who had a sack, two tackles for loss, and two hits on Vick.

"Timmons Unleashes Hell"

Steelers linebacker Timmons torches Eagles

All eyes were on linebacker James Harrison as he made his season debut Sunday at Heinz Field.

Most everyone was anxious to see if his surgically repaired knee would hold up against the Philadelphia Eagles.

However, with the Steelers in a somewhat must-win predicament, it was oft-maligned linebacker Lawrence Timmons who stepped up in leading the Steelers to a come-from-behind 16-14 victory.

Timmons led the Steelers with nine tackles (eight solo). He had two tackles for a loss and two quarterback hits. Not a bad effort considering Timmons had 12 tackles through the first three games.

Timmons unleashed the fiery, caged lion muzzled at times by undersized running backs. He looked like a big cat chasing down prey, often tossing aside Philadelphia’s mammoth offensive linemen while in pursuit of quarterback Michael Vick and former Pitt running back LeSean McCoy.

Timmons consistently harassed Vick before stripping him of the ball late in the second quarter at the Eagles 34.

“I wanted to show a lot of effort out there,” Timmons said. “Our coaches did a good job in pregame, and it carried over into the game. We did a good job of keeping (Vick) bottled up.”

Perhaps it was the return of Harrison and safety Troy Polamalu that inspired Timmons. But he seemed to find another gear when Polamalu limped off the field after aggravating his sore calf.
The pressure mounted when outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley was sidelined in the second quarter with a right hamstring injury.

Timmons altered the Eagles’ game plan as he often disrupted their timing by either flushing Vick from the pocket or sealing the middle of the Steelers’ defense, which was gutted by Oakland’s Darren McFadden in a 34-31 loss two weeks ago.

“Our defense stood up today,” Timmons said. “A good team is always defined by how they do after a loss. The energy we were playing with, running to the ball, that’s what it’s all about.

“In the first half they had me on the back. In the second half, the center or the guard came out on me, but they blitzed me outside and I still got some pressure.

“We just didn’t want Vick to get comfortable because he can hurt you downfield.”

Defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau dialed up myriad blitz schemes. They all somehow involved Timmons, who several times shot gaps to rattle Vick.

“I’ll say, compared to the last game, I was around the ball more,” Timmons said. “Our defensive line did a good job of containment (on Vick).”

It may have been business as usual for Timmons, but defensive end Ziggy Hood was quick to notice that Timmons was determined to influence the game’s outcome.

“It gave us energy to see (Timmons) balling like that,” Hood said. “He did his job. He had a Pro Bowl-caliber game. The man played hard, and as a defense we fed from it.”
Added safety Ryan Mundy: “Somebody is going to always provide that spark of energy. It was Lawrence today.”

Linebacker Larry Foote said the Steelers are likely to turn loose Timmons when the Steelers play in Tennessee Thursday night.

“I know a lot of people put a lot of heat on him to make big splash plays,” Foote said, “but if you come in to watch film, he’s one of the best players on our defense.”

Well dick finally found the viagra to get the def to work. However keep in mind they allowed Vick to drive them down the field and score, this is becoming a boner of contention with Dick. They need to stop relaxing back. Also it doesn't help that Ike sucks so bad that he is fast becoming a huge liability on def. Instead of trying to find 1 CB in the off season we need 2. This guy is going to put up 15 penalties plus by years end.

Harrison is the key, withoutot without Woodley on the field, Harrison make the D play differently.

Foote played great, Im not a foot kind of guy, but I thought he played a great game, had pressure, fumble recovery etc.

Holding Vick to only two scores is pretty darn good IMO. The last score was disappointing to me but only because on the first of two fourth downs, Timmons had two hands on the back in the back field. But honestly, if before the game, someone said the Eagles will only score 14 points, would you even THINK we could lose?

Timmons is a much better player than Foote. Foote is a liability in coverage and can't tackle in the open field. Every game he gets completely turned around in the open field and doesn't get a hand on the ball carrier. Unlike most people I don't judge the two based on tackles for a couple reasons- namely tackles stats are not kept by the NFL but by the teams themselves, and Timmons constantly draws man coverage assignments which he does extremely well.

Go look at the numbers Foote put up when he started at Timmons position, and then come back and apologize for your ridiculous statements about how great Foote is. Foote posted 63 combined tackles the last year he started at Timmons position- that is... if you want to look at meaningless tackle stats.

More like Timmons was taken off of the leash and they finally let him play his game. Timmons can play like this. The problem is that Lebeau barely lets him.

If you hold an Offense to 14 points, it's a good game for the Defense. The problem is that our Offense stumbled for 16.
