Injuries on the line are a self fulfilling prophecy of sorts. When the guys beside you start collapsing, rolling on you, etc., it opens you up to injury. We keep getting guys who let their section of the line get pushed back, leaving the good lineman hanging in space trying to take up the slack. Then the losers get rolled and we have injuries.

Counting on rookies to get a team to the Super Bowl is not gonna get it done. A couple of strong rookies mixed in with a bunch of strong veterans is okay, but you can't expect rookies to carry too much of the load.

Report: Mike Adams To Start At Right Tackle Against Bengals
Monday, October 15th, 2012 by Dave Bryan Pittsburgh Steelers rookie tackle Mike Adams said on Monday that he will start at right tackle next Sunday night against the Cincinnati Bengals, according to Mike Prisuta of DVE Radio. It was reported earlier in the day that starter Marcus Gilbert was spotted with his right foot in a boot after injuring it Thursday night in the loss to the Tennessee Titans. Gilbert posted Monday afternoon on Twitter that he was on a plane heading somewhere, so we can only speculate that he might be headed to see a specialist for his injury. If indeed Gilbert is out for a while, we could see the Steelers make a roster move as early as Tuesday. The only other tackle on the roster is rookie Kelvin Beachum, who appears likely to dress now against the Bengals. The Steelers have two offensive linemen on their practice squad in the form of John Malecki and Ryan Lee, but both are interior linemen type. Right guard Ramon Foster did get some snaps at right tackle during the preseason and left guard Willie Colon was previously a right tackle before moving inside this season. We will have to see what head coach Mike Tomlin says about all of this on Tuesday, but it is apparent that Gilbert could be down for a while. http://www.steelersdepot.com/2012/10...ainst-bengals/

Why not?
The 2008 draft was horrible. But, every other draft has been pretty solid. Two starters in a draft is a good draft. Keeping two other players (back-ups), is a good draft. That's four per year... 2007: Timmons - eh Woodley - Pro-Bowl Speath - a few decent years Gay - underappreciated 2008: Droppy Mendenspin - Good, but not great 2009: Hood - underwhelming Wallace - home run!!! Lewis - eh DJ Johnson - decent TE 2010: Pouncey - All-Pro Worilds - eh Sanders - good pick Sylvester - who knows Dwyer - good pick Brown - home run!!! 2011: Heyward - I'd like to see him start/I see promise Gilbert - looked good as a rookie Brown - disappointment thus far Allen - great pick Carter - eh Batch - good pick 2012: DD - injured, but will be great Adams - we'll see Spence - injured, but will be really good Ta'amu - shirtless Rainey - I foresee a Sproles-esque type of career Paulson - seems like a good, developmental player Beachum - we'll see |

spence and decastro injuries were a huge blow to how excited i was for this season. I thought those 2 would be immediate contributors. hopefully spence makes a full recovery and we can see more of him next year. him and timmons on the field at the same time would give us crazy speed at the inside backer positions and make it difficult to work the middle of the field vs the D
jury is still out on adams, tackle position is a lot harder to adjust to in the NFL. rainey and paulson are looking good so far, I wouldn't mind seeing them get more reps. rainey had a nice kickoff return last week ta'amu = huge disappointment, surprised if he stays on the team. beachum if he even makes the roster as a backup, that's solid for a 7th rounder. |

With regards to Adams starting for Gilbert.
Gilbert to Adams: "All right Mike, this is what you do to take your own man out." "You'll get more playing time." |

With Gilbert its other O-Line we have to worry about getting taken out....
With Adams its Ben getting taken out that scares me. I predict about 30,000 bubble screens on SNF

Ergo, the easiest thing for a young OT to do, is run block. I say run right, all game long. It will ease up that side of the line. Then, play-action to the right side... and, in turn, Adams will have a hesitant defender in front of him (if only for a split second), which will mean, most importantly, BB will not be hit from that side (& complete some passes). |
