I watched the game tonight and they showed one play early on where Steve McLendon got some early pressure. There was plenty of preseason talk about him but no real in-game stats. Nbc sports shows him as having no tackles, does anyone know how many plays he played? I was excited about him but haven't seen him on the field.

I haven't heard much of him either this year. I did notice on 3rd downs when Hampton came out, it seemed like the Steelers just went with two linemen instead of putting McClendon in.

Steelers Depot (www.steelersdepot.com) logs snap counts for every single game for every player. Keep an eye open on that site. I'm sure he'll have his participation charts for the game up in a day or two. McLendon pressured Manning on his interception, btw.

Which means he will receive less playing time and the gelatinous Hampton will receive more.

There has got to be a story here. It's pretty obvious why Hayward isn't playing, he's even softer than Hood, but McClendon being on the bench is a puzzler for sure.

I use him in Madden 13.. The guy has 8 sacks on the season for me
![]() As far as real life.. He will replace Hampton and do fine.

I don't understand the hate for Heyward at all. He's shown flashes of excellence when he gets snaps. |

I think Heyward struggles to play disciplined 3-4 style football.
The mental aspect of the game is more important to DL then the physical aspect. Sure you can be a playmaker, but if you are making mental mistakes , then you are also a liability. DL has been here for many years and always coaches his defense like that. Case in point... Larry Foote... he would not start on most teams. But to DL he doesn't make many mistakes.... he's were he's suppose to be. He doesn't hurt the team. Maybe at some point Heyward will be mentally ready, as of now he's not. I have no problem with DL's philosophy. It's worked out pretty well for DL so far. The guy is one of the best D-coordinators in the history of the game...and he's still out coaching his MUCH younger counterparts. |

So what, specifically, did you guys see in Heyward's play that tells you he is not mentally disciplined?
I have seen him get about 5 snaps per game tops, and as soon as he is in there, the pocket for the opposing QB gets smaller, and Harrison gets more pressure because Heyward does a better job eating up blockers right now than Kiesel. But admittedly, I am no coach, nor am I watching just Heyward specifically.
